Description
Documents associated with death (Bonds of Administration, Inventories, Probate Schedules and Wills) are some of the most widely distributed sources of primary information available to Paper Historians. This small monograph aims to bring these important documents to wider attention, alongside the large number of archives and historical publications which contain this information and which are worthy of further investigation. All entries are referenced fully, providing readers with locations and publications to allow documents to be identified and consulted.
It is aimed primarily at those investigating Family History (it includes information on around 1150 individuals working in a very wide variety of roles within the wider UK Paper Industry) and Local History (information is grouped regionally for all four areas of the United Kingdom, in addition to which a very small section is included for the Republic of Ireland). It covers a period of almost 500 years, which encompasses the start of paper manufacturing in this country.
It is acknowledged that the manuscript is at best an incomplete record of the extant Testamentary documentation in the United Kingdom, and it is hoped that it will stimulate interested parties to research the subject further, and so provide a more complete picture for the future.
