Conservation of The Hockey Jottings Scrapbook – Clare Prince
The work in question is a scrapbook compiled by three of the founding members of the Ladies’ Hockey Association. The author performed conservation work on behalf of its owner, the University of Bath. The article includes some of the wonderful drawings in the book, and outlines the conservation work performed to stabilise and repair this unique artefact.

Tracing a Lost Collection: The Watermark Portfolio of William Bell Scott – Louise Wilson
William Scott Bell (1811-1890) was a Scottish painter who collected prints and studied watermarks, by which means he amassed a portfolio of watermark tracings. In 1994 the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia received the collection of tracings. This article describes its condition, and shows a small selection of the watermark designs.

Charles Byrd (1916-2018): Paintings of Ely Paper Mill, Cardiff, from the 1950s – Peter Bower
Charles Byrd was a Welsh artist who moved to Cardiff around the age of 10 years, and, aside from military service, stayed there until his death. He took inspiration from the Cardiff cityscape, and his paintings included the large Ely Mill owned latterly by Wiggins Teape / Arjowiggins. This article gives a short biography of the artist, and includes three paintings showing the mill.

They all have a ‘book’ theme, and are notable for their delicacy and inventiveness. The article was produced soon after an auction sale of five sculptures, which netted between then around £50,000.
