Hamper Mill, Hertfordshire, No.405 – Michael Stanyon
Hamper Mill in Hertfordshire was one of the corn mills mentioned in Doomsday Book. It changed to paper manufacturing in 1772, and ceased the trade prior to being sold in 1914. It then had various uses: as a backdrop for glamour photography in the early 20th century; as a workspace for development of furniture designs by Terence Conran; as a workshop for ceramic artists; as a film set; and a home. The article includes details of the main owners (including the stationer William Lepard) and an account of a forgery scandal.
